At St. Gregory’s we strive to offer a high quality and diverse physical education programme. Our offer supports pupils in developing physical competence and confidence as well as promoting personal development, health and well being.

We promote positive attitudes towards a healthy and active lifestyle, with pupils learning how to be curious and think in different ways, develop resilience and make decisions in response to creative, competitive and challenging activities. They also learn how to reflect on their performance, plan, perform, evaluate actions, ideas and performances to improve the quality of their work. Physical education helps pupils develop personally and socially. They work as individuals, in groups and teams, developing concepts of fairness and of personal and social responsibility. They take on different roles and responsibilities, including leadership, officiating and coaching.

All children have access to at least two hours per week of high quality physical education activities through both curriculum lessons and after schools clubs covering a wide range of sports. In recent years we have used the Sports Premium funding to develop our school grounds to improve our PE offer including building a running track to be used for the ‘Daily Mile’ and a personalised orienteering course. We have also introduced new sports and activities including hockey, handball, Quidditch and Commando Joes.

Each year we participate in a range of sports competitions hosted by ‘Chorley School Sports Partnership’  including girls and boys football, netball, sportshall athletics, hockey and a range of skills and inclusion festivals.
